Rainer Maria Rilke at the Englar

At the turn of the century, a good number of famed artists stayed in the romantic, yet run-down, west wing of Englar Castle.

Otto Julius Bierbaum leased this wing of the castle from our uncle, Count Bruno Khuen, and invited his friends to spend artistic, leisurely stays here. Among these, to name but a few, were Hugo von Hoffmannsthal, painter Max Stremel and Rainer Maria Rilke.
